ARMY Bomb Ver. 4 battery: type, count and tips

The Ver. 4 takes three AAA alkaline batteries. The battery holder sits in the bottom of the handle. HYBE's official instructions add a few rules worth following:

  • Use genuine alkaline AAA batteries and check the + and - marks when you insert them.
  • Put in new batteries before every concert and bring spares. The app listing says old batteries can make the stick fade, or flash different colors and then switch off mid-show.
  • If you swap batteries during a concert, the stick stays paired and the light effects continue automatically.
  • A firmware update will not start if the batteries are low.
  • Take the batteries out after use to avoid leakage.

HYBE does not publish a battery-life figure for the Ver. 4. Some early reports said it would charge by cable, but the official listing is clear that it runs on AAA batteries. The only cable in the Ver. 4 lineup comes with the separately sold Cradle.

In Korea the stick sells for 49,000 won, according to The Korea Herald, which reported in March 2026 that resale listings ran from 100,000 to 300,000 won. Weverse Shop warns that counterfeits exist; genuine sticks carry an official BTS certification sticker on the package.

Accessories (sold separately)

  • Cradle ($32 on Weverse Shop USA): 6.6 x 13.7 x 6.6 cm, comes with a USB-C cable, recommended adapter 5V/1A. HYBE says it is only for the Ver. 4 and turns the stick into a mood lamp at home.
  • Parts ($13 each on Weverse Shop USA): swappable top pieces in BTS, ARMY and Tour Korean versions.
  • Light Stick Keyring Ver. 4 ($36, sold out on Weverse Shop USA): a keychain, not the full-size stick. Read listings carefully.

What's different from Ver. 3 and the Special Edition

HYBE's Ver. 4 announcement lists a wider color range with finer gradations, more independently controlled zones inside the globe, and a pre-show check where a correctly paired stick lights up together with the sticks around it. During some parts of a concert, wireless control can kick in even if pairing isn't finished. You can also change colors and flashing effects with the buttons, no app needed.

Ver. 4-only extras: a detachable top for the Parts accessories, the Cradle, a Color Shaking mode, and a Self Mode that saves your favorite colors. The Ver. 3 and SE Weverse Shop listings say "AAA batteries" without giving a count.

Do older ARMY Bombs work at the ARIRANG tour?

Not for the synchronized light show. HYBE's Ver. 4 notice says Ver. 3, SE and Ver. 4 were all supported through the Las Vegas concert on May 28, 2026, and that from the Busan concert on June 12, 2026, wireless control is supported only on Ver. 4. Every remaining 2026 show, in Latin America in October and Asia in November and December, falls after that cutoff.

HYBE's Santiago notice repeats it: the Ver. 4 is wirelessly controlled automatically once you turn it on, while "Ver.3 and SE Ver. do not support wireless control." See every remaining ARIRANG date.

Buttons and modes

From the manual on the Weverse Shop listing. The two buttons are built into the logo on the handle and are labeled 1 and 2 in the manual's diagram.

  • On/off: press and hold button 1.
  • Change color: press button 1 while the stick is on.
  • Change flashing pattern: press button 2 to cycle through the eight patterns.
  • Color Shaking: with the stick on, press and hold button 2, then shake it; the color changes randomly with each shake. Hold button 2 again to go back.
  • Bluetooth Mode / Self Mode: with the stick off, press and hold buttons 1 and 2 together. The app listing says to hold for 2 seconds; the stick blinks blue.
  • Swap the top part: hold the head and turn the part counterclockwise to remove it. To attach, line up the tab with the groove, push it in straight, and turn clockwise until it clicks.

ARMY Bomb Ver. 4 app and concert mode

The Ver. 4 uses its own free app, BTS Official Light Stick Ver.4 by HYBE Co., Ltd, on the App Store (iOS 15 or later) and Google Play. It is not the Weverse app, and it is not the older BTS OFFICIAL LIGHT STICK app used by Ver. 3 and SE. The app connects the stick over Bluetooth, runs Concert Mode (upcoming shows and whether seat pairing is required) and installs firmware updates. HYBE's June 2026 firmware notice listed version 1.1 as the latest.

Step-by-step pairing, concert mode and troubleshooting are in our ARMY Bomb connection guide, and the rest of your show-day list is in what to bring to the ARIRANG concert.
